**Irony, Wei Yan is going to be here anyway.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A warrior of the stature that only legend dictates made his way into the battlefield. The cool breeze blew his hair a bit, and made the grass kiss against boots. A smile came across his face, but the barbarian looking man merely let it fade. With a brisk few steps he stopped and slammed his spear into the ground with a smirk. Lifting a heavy, strong hand to the top of his head, the warrior let a mask slide down over his face. It was hideous, and only the mouth showed. Tiger teeth decorated the bottom, just at the warriors nose. A swirll of vibrant colors mixed and match over the eyes, cheeks, and forehead, looking like something that crawled straight out of hell.
Drawing two curved shortswords from his hips, Wei Yan bounced a bit back and forth from each leg, loosening himself up. The hair tugged at his animal fur half cape, but his bare tattooed chest just excepted the refreshment. Twirling the swords a few times he rechecked their weight for the thousandth time in his life. With a nod of acceptance to himself he broke down, planting his feet, keeping his calves tight like springs, and holding both blades backwards in his hands.
Whoever this Zhao Yun was he was to face, he knew of only one thing. It was a man that China rumored could best Wei Yan. This was a problem.
Zhao Yun was sitting in the open meadow, his eyes closed. He allowed his other senses to take over; the smell of the crisp spring air, the brick breeze flowing over his face, and the sound... his opponent was approaching. As Zhap yun slowly opened his eyes, they seemed almost void of emotion, blank slates one might say. He preferred battle this way. No emotional ties to anyone he fights.
The Dragon of Shu stood. His silver armor cast a gleam as the spring sun rolled lazily high into the sky. As he stood, his fingers felt the hard wood of his spear's shaft, amd he gripped it tight. The spear was his most prized posession. It was his tool of destruction, and when in combat with it... it was ingivorating. Liberating.
It made him feel like a god.
As he turned to face his opponent, a soft smile crept across his stone-cold face. Combat was the epitome of euphoria for Zhao Yun. There was no other feeling like it in the world.
His eyes locked onto his opponent, a man... he had seen this man before. He knew him well.
"Wei Yan, you wild boar, you. Care to partake in some... festivities?"
Zhao yun held his spear in his right hand, the shaft behind his back and the tip pointing downwards at an angle. With a quick and fluid spin of the spear, it changed hands, and was no in the same position, only mirrored into his left hand. ' The smile was still on his face.
It was on.
"Festivities, huh? I came looking for a man that was rumored my equal, but all I see is a poster boy." joked the barbarian as he shrugged and cracked his neck hopping a bit on his toes.
"Now, let us see who is the better warrior and who should return to their farm tools." A smirk rolled over the lips of the barbarian as he broke off into a light jog. His legs warmed up and both his arms just kinda freely readied infront of his chest.
"Come on, pretty boy. Lets see how many ladies like you with a gnarly scar on your brow." snarled the warrior as he slowly picked up pace never really reaching a full run.
while Wei Yan spoke, Zhao Yun kind've zoned him out while he looked his opponent over. No real armor... He had a spear with him as well, but right now he was using two swords. They looked about 3 feet long. Zhao yun's spear had a 6 foot shaft, and a 2 foot blade... he had a 5 foot advantage when it came to range. Wei Yan was physically larger by about half a foot and 30 lbs... but Zhao Yun figured even with his light armor, he would be faster.
He, too, broke into a jog towards his opponent, who was about 20-25 yards away. When he was about 10 yards away, he broke into a full sprint, , and slid his grip towards the base of the blade on his spear. Then, when he was 3 yards away, he leapt into the air, is eyes on Wei Yan's solar plexus. He seemed to sail through the air like a bird of prey, and within a blink of an eye, he struck.
His left arm, which was holding his spear, shot forward like a cannon, and seemed to almost throw the spear like a javalin. He let the spear slide through his grip, and it was almost like he was throwing a javalin underhand. However, he tightened his grip at the base of his spear, and held firm once he reached his maximum range for the attack. Then, once his blade had shot forward at Wei Yan's solar plexus, Zhao Yun wrenched the weapon towards himself. as he landed, he gripped his spear in both hands, eyeing his opponent's weapons...
If he was still alive enough to hold them.
Who the hell was this guy? Achilles? Are you kiddin' me? Anyway!
Wei Yan half expected a spear straight at his chest, but with the sudden sprint the only thing in order was a jump. The barbarian predicted it perfectly. His head sunk away from the blade and the moment the warrior got airborne Yan hit a hard roll to the left. He popped up about the same time Zhao Yun sounded to have landed.
With a scoff he spun on a heal and lunged towards the enemy, the blade in his left hand poised to intercept a retaliation as his right blade came out quick across his chest and slashed right at the left armpit of the warrior. The only part of him that seemed unarmored.
The only thing strange was that Yan's left foot landed hard at the end of the lunge. Was he going to tackle the warrior? Maybe he was going to roll again or jump back quickly? Who the hell knew? Hopefully Zhao Yun would figure it out.
Zhao Yun landed on his feet and, with a quick turn and repositioning of his body, was on the defensive. Wei Yan's weight, it seemed, was on his left foot now. when Zhao Yun saw the right hand fly towards him, he now knew Wei Yan had commited his weight to that back foot. From this range, Zhao Yun's advantage of range was nullified... but right now, he had other things to worry about.
His left hand was positioned on his spear towards the bottom third, with his right hand near the upper third, closer to the blade. As the blade came at him, He bent his left leg, and stretched his right leg straight in a crouch. He raised his right left hand above his head, and his right hand positioned the blade,.. it looked like he was shooting pool. Was this his signature stance!? Like, say... the one in his character profile!?
He was in the stance in less than a second, and the attack came shortly after that. As the sword came at his armpit, the blade of his spear shot upwards and he spun his body, hopefully deflecting it away from his unprotected stink-pit. Then, once his piruette-like spin was completed, he took a quick step back and thrusted his spear forwards. As he did so, he spun the shaft, so that the blade of his spear spun as well. He was about 5 feet away now... just out of Wei Yan's range. Too bad Wei Yan wasn't out of his.
The spear shaft did as planned, it batted away Wei Yan's right weapon and as the crafty Zhao Yun returned to the offensive Wei Yan just smirked a bit. His left leg, now fully readied, much like a loaded spring shoved off the ground.
The spear blade came rushing forward as was expected. The fatal flaw of the spearmanship so far, stabs were only soo effective. The left hand blade that had been prepped for defense shot across Wei Yan's body moving to punch the blade of the spear out wide of Wei Yan. If it succeeded he'd use the weight of his own punched blade to spin. His right blade came around with his body, the blade coming down hard towards Zhao Yun's collar, but due to spinning it probably wouldn't be terribly accurate, but a shoulder hit could slow the warrior atleast.
Yan would land on his right foot and bring his left up and back into the first readied stance as before, blades infront of his chest still reversed. The warrior was full of fight now, his heart racing and his old words turning into grunts, snarls, and roars. A beast of a man to say the least.
As soon as Wei Yan's blade connected with his spear, his right hand launched itself towards the shaft, and held firm. Although his spear had missed it's mark, it had only been pushed away about two feet or so. But... now his opponent was spinning. When Wei Yan's spin had 90 degrees left to complete a full 360, Zhao yun pulled his spear in a bit, and with both hands he thrusted his spear towards Wei Yan's right elbow. Wei Yan's momentum from the spin, mixed with Zhao yun's sheer force of the thrust, would probably cut the forarm off. But Zhao Yun knew Wei Yan.
Nothing was ever that simple... unless it really was.
There was a blade coming at him mid spin. Wei Yan had only one option, back out and hope for the best. Stomping down early with his right foot he shoved backwards into a roll. Any less of a man would have just lost his arm, and probably a good chunk of his torso. Yan popped up and felt a burning creeping up his arm.
With a snarl he glared down at the small cut that was going along his forearm. The rumors were true, the man was a fighter, but Wei Yan officially let himself slip into the Beast. He sheathed his left blade and roared as he charged forward, his right arm out wide, his left hand in a tight fist and his chest wide open. This man had to be possessed. He was wide open to die and all he could do was roar and charge.
The mask he wore was terrifying to some, but it was a child's toy to how the man was acting. If there was a God of Bravery, he trembled a bit before looking again at the field of battle.
As Zhao yun took a small step backwards to reposition his weight, he looked at his weapon; there was a line of blood rinning down the right side of it. He half expected the blood to melt his blade like acid, but no matter. He had much larger things to worry about right now. As wei Yan roared, Zhao yun was a bit taken aback, but held his composure fairly well. He wasn't sure quite what to do... Was this man truly possessed by the god of War right now?
Zhao Yun was not sure if it was a ploy, but... well, Zhao yun decided to take the bait. As Wei Yan charged forward, Zhao yun took a quick step forward and rolled towards Wei Yan. When he came up, Wei Yan was about 6 feet away. zhao Yun was now in a crouching position, and was towards Wei Yan's right side. His hand positioning altered during the roll; now, his left hand was closer towards the blade, while his right was towards the base. He brought the blade of his spear from his dominant left to his right, about at Wei Yan's thigh. If he were to roll, he would get his back hit most likely. If he jumped, probably his ankles his ankles. But one thing was for sure. If he kept going straight...
...he might not be having babies anytime soon.
The enemy rolled, then the spear was infront of Yan. Another roar left the lips of the beast as he kept running forward. As the stab came jutting out the beast side stepped to the right and with his right hand shot it out at the haft of the blade. If Zhao Yun attempted to move the spear at all, it would be having to fight the strength of Wei Yan as he grasped the haft just behidn the blade, almost hand to hand with Zhao Yun.
Another roar left the lips of Yan as he brought around his right hand. One thought came into his head just in time thought to possibly save the life of the warrior of Shu. This was a friendly duel. The blade that had been aimed for Yun's throat now soared towards his shoulder. At best the warrior of Shu would bleed a bit, but most likely the armor would just seperate his shoulder.
Roars echoed even in the meadow. After everything would be done. Yan would step back, remove his mask and see if the warrior of Shu wished to continue with the primalistic eyes of the beast bared, his incisors bared, and his muscles pulsing.
Zhao Yun cursed himself as Wei Yan slammed his hand into Zhao Yun's spear. As the blade came towards him, All he could do was move with the blade to avoid any serious, battle-ending damage. As the blade reached the peak of it's momentum, Zhao Yun moved with it. Zhao Yun's body was now in a position so that Wei Yan's sword sliced through the armor protecting his right pectoral muscle. Although the metal armor brought the blade to a halt after it entered, it gave Zhao Yun a nasty cut that stung quite a bit as Wei Yan slid the blade back towards him . Zhan Yun felt Wei Yan's grip leave the spear, and Zhao Yun rolled backwards, away from his brute of an opponent.
Zhao Yun would worry about his cut later. Right now, with so much adrenaline coursing through his body, he barely felt that dull, throbbing pain. He looked Wei Yan in the eyes, showing his respect for the man for not ending his life just then. Zhao Yun could only hope that the respect was mutual.
However, now Wei Yan had a free hand... something that could prove troublesome later on. But whatever... he had a plan. Zhao yun's smile crept back across his face, and his spear was held in his right hand now, and his legs were bent, his calves ready to spring forward. Zhao Yun twirled his spear as masterfully as a Drum Major would spin a baton.
Then, he stood, his body fully erect. His spear stopped spinning, and was held behind his back in both hands. Then, Zhao Yun bowed and addressed Wei yan.
"Wei Yan, this has been the highlight of my life. I hope that I am privileged enough to meet you once again... perhapsd on the field of battle."
With that Zhao Yun left, leaving the duel, agreed between the two, at a draw.
