Mortiss asked me to step in and give a verdict on what was happning between he and Vash. I acted this duel out with Steve, and I went over everything with Lyle. I have spent hours trying to figure out everything, and determine everything realistically. This is what I have come up with.
This is what I see happening:
Mortiss runs at Vash, fakes towards the left before leaping to the right and facing Vash's right side. He uses his right blade to slash from right to left across the sides of Vash's knees. Mortiss then thrusts his left blade at Vash's lower body.
Vash blocks with is left sword by pointing it at the ground, meaning he would have to cross his entire body because Mortiss is attacking his right side. He then turns to face Mortiss, and uses his right blade to intercept Mortiss’ left. He moves his blade in a circle counterclockwise, and tries to push Mortiss’ blade to the right to dodge the attack.
Now for the flaws:
Vash says the force he gave to Mortiss was equal to what he was receiving. This is impossible since Mortiss attacked at a run and Vash was at a standstill. Mortiss would have more momentum, and Vash couldn’t possibly match it. Vash did not state that he moved his legs at all when he blocked. He is crossing his body by blocking with his left hand, and Mortiss’ momentum would send him off balance. That, and his one arm could not take the impact of Mortiss’ sword and Vash’s left sword would be knocked across his body. Mortiss’ sword would make contact with Vash’s right leg. Mortiss’ next attack is a thrust towards Vash’s lower body. He is stepping back now, and is defending counterclockwise. This is the wrong direction, because even if he could block (he most likely would not be able to because he was off balance and most likely knocked backwards), he would be forcing Mortiss’ blade to the left towards his body so it would make contact.
Vash will be hit with two attacks.
